Deputy Director-General, Commerce and Service Industry Policy Group – Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)

Mr. TANAKA joined MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) of the Japanese government in 1994. Since then he has engaged in several industrial and international policy sections such as energy and trade policy planning. He was also posted in Paris as a Counselor, Permanent Delegation of Japan to the OECD/IEA. After coming back to METI, he was appointed as a director of international energy policy division and a representative of Japan to the IEA. In 2019, He organized G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth in Japan. Since 2020, he has worked for commerce and service industry policy group which covers bioindustry. Mr. TANAKA obtained his bachelor’s degree in Laws (University of Tokyo) and master’s degree in Philosophy of Development Studies (IDS (Institute of Development Studies), University of Sussex). He was a Yale World Fellow in 2005 (Yale University).
