Join CIC Miami’s General Manager Natalia Martinez-Kalinina as she talks about Miami’s Innovation Ecosystem. Miami is uniquely positioned as a bridge point between North and South America and a thriving metropolis with a rapidly-growing entrepreneurial community. The South Florida region is home to five Fortune 500 companies. Ranked as the #1 City in Startup activity in the U.S. (Kauffman Index, 2017) and a #3 Top emerging tech hub (Mashable), Miami has seen a noticeable increase in accelerator programs, entrepreneurial support, resources focused on supporting small companies over recent years. Miami has the second largest health/life sciences district in the country, is home to the only U.S. airport designed as a “Pharma Hub” and servicing 100+ airlines, the country’s second largest Foreign Trade Zone, 30+ international banks, and a growing angel/VC investment community. With that said, the city also has a long list of challenges, gaps, and points in need of maturation. Maneuvering between these opportunities and liabilities will mark the next phase in Miami’s development.
