FDA's New Era of Smarter Food Safety relies on low-cost or no-cost technology solutions for farm to fork food traceability. Computer vision technologies accessible via a smartphone can auto-extract barcode and additional information. Combined with language processing algorithms, one can easily process compliance, audit and other documents such as the Bill of Lading to greatly enhance food safety.

Ubiquitous smartphones enable traceability of produce even during last-mile delivery which are often based on new and automated micro-warehouse technologies. This talk will describe in detail a very low-cost traceability solution developed for the FDA's traceability challenge.
