Organizations that prioritize disability inclusion benefit from 28% higher revenue, double their net income, and 30% higher profit margins (Accenture, Disability:In). This is not surprising: disability is the majority minority globally and cuts across all other identities inclusive of race, religion, gender expression and identity, and socioeconomic status. In the USA, 26% of people live with disabilities (CDC) – these are our colleagues, funders, board members, and clients. Yet, disability perspectives are rarely included in conversations about product design and business strategies for recruitment, diversity, and growth. This is a loss for startups and established businesses alike. In this session, we will bust disability myths through data, directly connect disability with design and innovation through case studies (it’s a design constraint!), and talk specifics about actions we can take to be more inclusive of disability perspectives.
