CIC: a global leader in building and operating innovation communities

At CIC, we believe in the power of innovation to build a better world. Our state-of-the-art innovation campuses serve as centers of gravity for local entrepreneurial ecosystems, where growing companies can easily access the resources and networks that support their success. With nine campuses across three continents, we are home to thousands of entrepreneurs and organizations of all sizes, work styles, and industries. CIC’s flexible, all-inclusive workspace model enables members to get to work right away and remain nimble along their growth journeys — all in a community-oriented environment of peers.

Within and beyond our own walls, CIC partners with governments, universities, and nonprofits to foster a city’s innovation capacity and economic development. Since opening 1999, we have founded or cofounded a number of mission-aligned organizations including Venture Café, which originated at our flagship location in Kendall Square in 2010. For over a decade, CIC and Venture Café have strategically expanded and operated in tandem to best support local innovation communities with free, high-touch programming, business resources, and networking opportunities.

CIC Japan Desk: bridging Japan and Boston’s innovation ecosystems

CIC Japan Desk works to open pathways for business between Japan and the United States. Through hands-on programming and tailored services, Japan Desk facilitates connections across the innovation ecosystems of Japan and Boston, utilizing its homebase of CIC Cambridge and sister site CIC Tokyo as launchpads for companies seeking to collaborate or expand internationally. In 2018, Japan Desk partnered with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to launch the JETRO Global Acceleration Hub in Boston, and since 2020, the two organizations have jointly run intensive bootcamps that prepare Japanese life science and healthcare startups to enter the Boston and larger US markets. Japan Desk also runs a bootcamp with the Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to the Americas, an initiative to build bridges between the US and the city of Yokohama. If you are interested in getting involved in Japan Desk programming as a startup mentor, expert, or speaker, please reach out to Jessy LeClair.
