Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympic Games are fast approaching. As one of the oldest competitions in strength and endurance, the games have tremendous power to unite the world around our shared fascination with exploring the limits of human athletic performance.
Venture Café’s Innovations of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will go behind the scenes with a selection of Tokyo 2020 Olympic sponsors to examine just how multi-national companies and local New England companies are using technology to expand human boundaries.

Join Consul General Setsuo Ohmori, and JETRO New York President Issei Hatakeyama as they kick off our special event on innovations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Presenter: Setsuo Ohmori, Consul General, Consulate-General of Japan in Boston
Mr. Setsuo Ohmori has been the Consul General of Japan in Boston since September 2019. From 2016-2019, Mr. Ohmori served as Minister at the Embassy of Japan in Saudi Arabia. He has also served as Minister at both the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines (2012-2014) and the Embassy of Japan in the United Arab Emirates (2009-2012). From 2007-2009, he served as Director of International Education Division in the Primary and Secondary Education Bureau at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. He also served as Director of the Mexico, Central America and Caribbean Affairs Division in the Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2006-2007.
Presenter: Issei Hatakeyama, President, JETRO New York
Issei Hatakeyama was appointed President of JETRO New York on July 2018. As the Regional Headquarters of North America, he oversees all JETRO activities in North America. Prior to this post, he held various positions throughout the Japanese government. Most recently, Mr. Hatakeyama was the Director of General Coordination Office, Fukushima Reconstruction Promotion Group, METI. Mr. Hatakeyama graduated from the Faculty of Law at University of Tokyo and received his MBA at Goizueta Business School, Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

Presenter: Yusuke Yabumoto, Regional Director, Innovation Division, Business Creation Strategy Department Silicon Valley Office, Japan Airlines Co., Ltd.
Yusuke Yabumoto is the Regional Director of Japan Airlines Business Creation Department at the Silicon Valley Office. Prior to becoming the Regional Director in December 2018, Yusuke had been the Manager of Public Relations for over 4 years and also has extensive experience in sales as well as route network planning.

In this session, experts will share the latest advances in athletic footwear and apparel, wearables, and training systems designed to push the limits of human performance.

Moderator: Christina Chase, Managing Director, MIT Sports Lab.
Christina Chase is Managing Director and co-founder of the MIT Sports Lab which works with professional teams, global brands, and elite sports organizations to tackle key questions at the intersection of data, sport and engineering. She holds two appointments in MIT’s School of Engineering where she teaches Sports Technology and Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Entrepreneurship. Before this she was the first Entrepreneur in Residence at MIT where she helped hundreds of founders go from concept to company. Christina is a Techstars mentor and has judged for the SXSW Accelerator Competition where she was a member of the Advisory Board. Christina is a former cyclist, selected by the US Cycling Federation to train at the US Olympic Training Center. She has taught downhill skiing in Colorado, summited six of Colorado’s 14-ers across seasons, and her latest sport is kiteboarding.
Presenter: AJ Andrassy, Global Director of Performance Running Footwear, ASICS
AJ Andrassy serves as the Global Director of Performance Running Footwear for ASICS. First joining ASICS in 2013, AJ has worked in a variety of capacities for the brand. Prior to his current role, he served as the Sales Director for Run Specialty. AJ is a graduate of The University of Notre Dame, where he was a member of the cross country team that finished 3rd at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country Championships. He earned his MBA and Master’s in Sports Administration (M.S.A) from The Ohio University.
Presenter: Sakie Sullivan, Sr. Marketing Associate, Fitness Apps, ASICS Digital
Sakie Sullivan is a Loyalty Marketing Associate at ASICS Digital, where she is in charge of connecting between runners and the brand within the ASICS ecosystem. She has completed 4 marathons in the past, and is training for the Boston Marathon this year.
Presenter: Andrew Fiori, President, Esports Boston Corp
Andrew is President at Esports Boston Corp, Dramatik Gaming, and General Manager at Boston Uprising Academy. He created Esports Boston Corp in February 2017 and rebranded the competitive aspect of EBC to Dramatik Gaming in September 2017. Dramatik Gaming Sports is a competitive League of Legends team along with 5 Fighting Game Community (FGC) players. Since March of 2019, Esports Boston Corp has been contracted with the Kraft Group to manage and operate the Boston Uprising’s minor league team, the Boston Uprising Academy.

Explore the technologies behind high-performance projection, LED and LCD displays, and cutting-edge video production developed by Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory. Hear how apps are scaling smartphone engagement into sports.

Kelsey Alpaio is the Assistant Editor at Innovation Leader, an independent media and events company focused on helping change-makers in large organizations deliver real impact. She joined the company in 2016, after earning her Master’s in Technical Entrepreneurship from Lehigh University, where she also earned undergraduate degrees in Journalism and Political Science.

Theme Park attraction design and developing new technologies.

Lauren Sallata is Chief Marketing Officer at Panasonic Corporation of North America. She leads the transformation of digital, brand, content, advertising and corporate communications efforts. Lauren is responsible for the development and orchestration of comprehensive marketing initiatives and strategic messaging that better engages customers by speaking to their values and needs while nurturing ongoing relationships.
Presenter: Diego Freitas, Co-Founder, New England Whalers
Diego Freitas, 31, is a Boston native leading the largest esports organization in the northeast; the New England Whalers. Co-founded 2016, his esports organization competes in all major competitive gaming titles. His previous experience spans from Apple and Tesla with a focus on Customer Experience, Support, and IT. His approach with gaming is setting roots into the region while creating a splash of recognition nationality and internacional. A major Boston sports fan with the vision to elevate the Whalers to the likes of the regions greats.

He leads Capy Inc., a cybersecurity startup which is backed by top tiers including Microsoft ventures, 500 Startups, Orange Fab. The company currently possess #1 share in Japan market.
